Upon receiving 10 times their fundraising 2 million yen (USD20,000) goal, Onkyo showed up to TGS with their SHIDO:001 gaming headset and their SHIDO:002 USB control amp to show off the new devices!
So while there, we decided to give the SHIDO:001 a test run before it ships out!
Functional Form with a Simple Appearance
At first look, the headphones appear to be very simple in appearance, but wearing the headphones completely changes everything.
- Great balance of breathability and tightness from the ear pads.
- A LOT lighter than it looks.
- A form that fits the ear perfectly.
The look of the headphones doesn’t really strike us as having such a great build quality, so it was a shock when we actually tried them on. We definitely think that people other than gamers will definitely enjoy them, as they have the right amount of breathability that keeps sweat from building up.
We tested the headset out with a battle royale style game, and the quality of the sounds helped us figure out where sounds of other players were coming from.
The sound quality is also great. Where, in the case of most gaming headsets where there isn’t any stress on the highs and lows, with a completely flat sound, the SHIDO:001 does what other gaming headsets can’t accomplish. The headset stresses those important sounds that can mean a win or loss during your match, and they also make sure that the user can use them for a long time.
A Perfect Fit
If you sweat a lot, or just live in a humid place, this Onkyo headset was made to be worn and stay dry for a long time. We definitely wouldn’t have expected anything less from Onkyo.
At the moment, the headset isn’t available for general purchase, but we’ll definitely be sure to get out hands on a pair when they do!
