The popularity of this game has not waned in the 31 years since the first version was released in October 1991, and in recent years it has become a hot e-sports title as well.
SEGA's official professional tournament for Puyopuyo, the " Puyopuyo Championship SEASON 5 STAGE 2 Final Tournament," was held on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Tokyo Joypolis, an indoor theme park in Daiba, Tokyo. The winner of the tournament was awarded a prize of 100 million yen.

Tomokun was the champion of "Puyopuyo Finals SEASON 2" and "GigaCrysta Presents Puyopuyo Finals SEASON 4" and is the only player who has won the Finals multiple times.

In the final, Tomo-kun will be facing Setanagi(@setanagi), a member of the multi-gaming team SIRIUSGAMING (@SIRIUSprogaming).

In this tournament, the winner is the player who wins two sets of five games in one set.
In the first set, both players shot each other with a big chain, and Tomo-kun won 5-1.

Tomo-kun's comments on his victory

I am very happy to win the championship at Tokyo Joypolis with an audience, as I have not been able to achieve good results in the last two years.
Looking back on the competition, there were some bad matches in the semi-finals, and I think they affected the final match. In the final against Sesanagi, he used a lot of fast attacks and other special attacks, but I am glad that I managed to hold on and win.
