A controller that can be freely customized and linked to other controllers

"Project Leonardo" is the codename for the freely customizable accessibility controller kit. It helps players with limited motor control, such as those who cannot hold a controller for long periods of time, cannot accurately press small buttons and triggers clustered in one place, or cannot position their fingers properly on a standard controller. This helps players to enjoy their games more easily, comfortably, and for longer periods of time.

A complete set of interchangeable and sturdy components is included, including a variety of differently shaped analog stick caps and buttons that allow you to customize the controls to your liking. These can be combined to configure a variety of layouts. The distance between the gamepad and the analog stick is also adjustable, so you can configure the most comfortable operation in terms of strength, range of motion, and coordination with other devices.

On the software side as well, various settings can be configured from the options on the PS5 console. In addition to being able to change the button assignments, it is also possible to assign multiple buttons to a single button, such as "L2" + "R2". Even if it is difficult to operate multiple buttons at the same time, you can use a single button for the same input. Up to three profiles can be saved, so you can register the button assignments that are easiest to use depending on the title you are playing and easily switch between them without having to re-set them each time.

Project Leonardo can be used as a stand-alone device, of course, but it can also be used in combination with other Project Leonardo and DualSense wireless controllers. Up to two "Project Leonardos" can be used together. Up to two "Project Leonardo" and one "DualSense Wireless Controller" can be used as a single virtual controller, so you can link peripherals according to your needs. It is also possible for multiple people to cooperate in operation.

Project Leonardo" also uses four 3.5mm AUX ports to support external switches and third-party accessibility peripherals. Dedicated switches, buttons, and analog sticks can be used with "Project Leonardo. Various manufacturers have already released accessibility controllers and devices, and many people enjoy playing games with them. We are glad that we can continue to use those devices.

The symmetrical split design allows you to adjust the position of the analog sticks so that you can place each one on the left or right where it is easier to operate. The device can also be used stationary without being held in the hand, so it can be played while on a desk or wheelchair tray. It can also be mounted on an AMPS mount or tripod for 360-degree adjustment, and the analog sticks can be set "up" again after being placed in a comfortable position.

Currently under development! Let's wait for more information!

Project Leonardo" is still under development, and its release date and price have not yet been announced. Project Leonardo" will allow many people to experience the great gaming experience of PS5, and will be the one that will give them the chance to discover new games. As we wait for more information to be announced, we would like to conclude with a comment from Sou Morimoto, a designer at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Please check the PlayStation .Blog for more details on each!

Comments from Sou Morimoto

Project Leonardo is part of the PS5 product family and is based on the same design concept. The idea was inspired by the idea of all players enjoying the PlayStation world together. The team worked with accessibility experts to examine more than a dozen different designs and explore approaches that would solve key challenges and lead to effective controller use. Ultimately, a "split controller design" was adopted. The left and right thumbsticks can be positioned almost freely, eliminating the need to hold the controller in the hand, and allowing for very flexible button and stick cap replacement. There is no right shape, as each player can customize Project Leonardo to his or her own needs. You can create your own configuration that suits you. It is also flexible enough to be combined with accessibility peripherals to create a unique style. We are very much looking forward to collaborating with players to complete the design, rather than imposing a single form on them!
